Uranus Planet Facts

Uranus Planet FactsThe seventh planet in our solar system is the Uranus which has the third largest planetary radius and the fourth largest planetary mass in our solar system. The planet Uranus is named after the ancient Greek deity of the sky Uranus, grandfather of Zeus (Jupiter) and the father of Cronus (Saturn). Though the planet is visible to our naked eyes like five classical planets; because of the dimness and slow orbit of Uranus it was never recognized as the planet by the ancient observers. In 1781 March 13 Sir William Herschel announced discovery of Uranus planet, expanding the known boundaries of Solar System for first time in the modern history. The planet Uranus was the first planet which was discovered with the telescope.

Uranus PlanetPlanet Uranus has the same kind of composition like the Neptune that means both planets are of different chemical composition than larger gas giant Jupiter & Saturn. Some time the astronomers place them in the separate category as “Ice giants.” The atmosphere of the Uranus is while similar to the Planet Saturn and the Jupiter in its primary compositions of Helium and Hydrogen containing more Ices likes as water, methane and ammonia together with the traces of hydrocarbons. Uranus is also called as the coldest planetary atmosphere in our Solar System which has temperature of -224 degree Celsius (49 K). We also can find the complex, layered cloud structure, with the water thoughts to make up lowest clouds & the methane thought making the uppermost layers of cloud. But generally in the contrast it is found that the planet is mainly composed of rocks and the ices.

Information about Uranus PlanetThe planet Uranus has the numerous of Moons, a magnetosphere and a ring system as other giant planets have. Overall other planets it has found the Uranian system has unique configuration due to its axis of rotations is tilted sideways, nearly into plane of its revolutions about Sun. The poles of the Planet i.e. South Pole and North Pole lie where most other planets have their equators. While watching the planet from the Earth its rings can sometimes appears to be circle like an archery target and the moon revolves round the planet like the hand of clock. Ring appeared edge on in 2007 and2008. The image shown by the Voyager 2 in 1986 as a virtually featureless planet in the visible light without cloud bands or the storms associated with the other giants. There have seen the sign of seasonal change & the increased weather activities in the recent years by the terrestrial observers as the planet Uranus approached its equinox. Wind speed on the planet Uranus can reach upto 250 meter per second (560 mph, 900 km/h).
